Read the passage from “I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings.”I have tried often to search behind the sophistication of years for the enchantment I so easily found in those gifts. The essence escapes but its aura remains. To be allowed, no, invited, into the private lives of strangers, and to share their joys and fears, was a chance to exchange the Southern bitter wormwood for a cup of mead with Beowulf or a hot cup of tea and milk with Oliver Twist. When I said aloud, "It is a far, far better thing that I do, than I have ever done . . .” tears of love filled my eyes at my selflessness. In the short story, "The Cask of Amontillado," the reader is never told what the exact insult was that caused Montresor to seek revenge against Fortunato. Write to tell what happened before the story begins in "The Cask of Amontillado."

Answers

This is what happens before the story begins in "The Cask of Amontillado", according to my imagination:

Fortunato had always been an arrogant man who loved to laugh at his friends' imperfections or mistakes in general. When Montresor first met him, he was amazed at how clever and generous that man seemed to be. However, such an impression quickly died out: Fortunato turned out to be a rude, unkind, bitter man. That was a huge disappointment for Montresor, who really treasured his friend, at least in the beginning of their friendship.

One day, the two friends were having a casual conversation, when suddenly Fortunato turned to Montresor and said to him: "I'm sure I'm better than you at anything; that's why you were so jealous whenever I came around that girl you fancied..." Montresor was shocked to hear that, to which he replied right away: "Jealous? What are you talking about?" Fortunato had a cynical smile on his face, and said next: "So you think I didn't notice how insecure you felt... Maybe you were afraid she would fall in love with me, not with you..." After hearing that, Montresor was oppressed with anger, and couldn't say a word since if he did so, he would probably burst out in tears of uncontrollable rage.

After having spent the following night in a state of agitated insomnia, Montresor had an idea: inviting Fortunato to go taste some wine in a place where no one would bother them and that would also be suitable for a sweet and irreversible revenge.

Which sentence uses quotation marks correctly? ‘Most people don’t know that riding is great exercise,’ Kim confided. My horse, Kim explained, is one of my closest friends. Kim said, I hope to compete in barrel riding next year. “My first horse will always be my favorite,” Kim admitted.

Answers

The correct answer is D. "My first horse will always be my favorite," Kim admitted.

Explanation:

Quotation marks ("), also known as talking marks are punctuation marks just like commas (;) or semicolons (;) , according to grammar quotation marks are mainly use to for direct quotes, which means quotation marks shows the reader the words between the quotation marks are the exact words said by someone who is not the author of the text, also quotation marks are used to refer to the title of books and other works. In this way, according to grammar all the words that refer to the words said by someone should be between double quotations ("), additionally, commas and periods should be placed inside them and the first letter should be capitalized if a whole sentence is being quoted. Thus,  "My first horse will always be my favorite," Kim admitted. uses quotation marks correctly because it uses double quotations to cite the words of Kim, places a comma between quotations and the first word is capitalized which is the correct use of quotation marks according to grammar.

The last sentence because you need to use quotations ( " ) when writing a direct quote from someone. Don't use apostrophes ( ' ) like in the first sentence.
