In his speech to the Mississippi Legislature, what does Davis mean by this statement: “we shall then bear to the federal government the relation our colonial fathers did to the British crown”?

Answers

Answer 1
Answer:

This particular speech was given by the President of the Confederate States, Jefferson Davis at the Mississippi Capitol on December of 1862. At this particular time, the great civil war was raging between the American North and South and this speech is intended to reinforce the belief of Mississippians in the righfulness and importance of the secession and independence movement of the South and the Confederacy. At a time when Northern forces were strongly advancing on Southern strategic points, when southern forces were seeing and suffering the power of the armies of the North, Davis calls upon the effervecent feelings of patriotism and love for the way of living of the Southern states to embolden men to join the fight, for southerners, especially Mississippians, to not fail to support the cause in any way they can.

One emphasis that Davis makes in his speech is on the importance of independence both from the subjugation of the North and also from the need for foreign powers to support the cause. And when he compares the relationship that would result when the Confederate State frees itself from the federal government to the freedom gained by the Union from Britain, what Davis is doing to remind Mississippians that there will be absolutely no connection between the North and the South, just as the Founding Fathers severed all connection to the British crown.

Do the benefits of exploring mars outweigh the risks?

Answers

Final answer:

The benefits of exploring Mars potentially involve major scientific discoveries and gaining greater understanding of our universe. However, there are also significant risks, including potential radiation exposure for astronauts, contamination of Earth, and high costs. The answer to the question depends on one's evaluation of these risks and benefits.

Explanation:

The question of whether the benefits of exploring Mars outweigh the risks is complex and multi-faceted. On one hand, the risks include potential radiation exposure for astronauts, potential contamination of Earth by returned samples, and the high costs associated with space exploration. According to NASA, astronauts could be exposed to high-energy solar radiation and an ill-timed solar storm could end an astronaut's career. NASA is also committed to the complete biological isolation of returned samples until they are demonstrated to be safe to avoid potential contamination.

On the other hand, important potential benefits include the possibility of finding extraterrestrial life and gaining a greater understanding of Mars. Space scientists are highly intrigued by these possibilities and NASA is investing heavily in research on life in the universe. Discovering evidence of past microbial life on Mars, as a result of ongoing and future missions, would be a major scientific discovery and could lead to increased funding for NASA.

Therefore, the answer to the question largely depends on one's perspective and evaluation of these risks and benefits. The potential risks are significant, but so are the potential rewards of scientific discovery and increased understanding of our universe.

What are the pros and cons of using propaganda in an essay

Answers

I guess you could say a pro is that gullible people will believe you, but that's an unethical pro. The cons are that it usually causes much controversy in a society where there's not supposed to be a bias in the government. Propaganda in its true form is never a good thing. It is unethical in the sense that it takes advantage of people who are too lazy to do research and quick to believe what someone tells them. One example I like to use is many of these independent "news" websites. On both ends of the political spectrum, left and right, you find websites that have articles so heavily weighed down with that wings propaganda that true news becomes less and less visible. Occupy Democrats is one textbook example of that.
