I stood against the far wall of the shabby lobby avoiding eye contact with the doorman as my dad checked us in for the night. We’d hoped to make it as far as Scranton, but the weather had interfered, leaving us instead at an eyesore of a truck-stop motel. My ear buds were jammed in as far as comfort would allow in a vain attempt to block out the motel’s vibe. Still, I could not ignore the looming presence of the doorman. He stood in the dim portico, sweeping and re-sweeping a pile of lint on the floor, watching the parking lot with his watery eyes, and occasionally signaling to the whiskered clerk behind the desk. What technique does the author use to build suspense in the excerpt? The pace of the story quickens. The word choice darkens the tone. Odd characters are introduced. The setting details are intentionally omitted.

Volunteers to the Rescue

Due to the tireless efforts of volunteers who rescued injured and abandoned animals, hundreds of animals were saved after the hurricane. As a result of their selflessness, about 120 animals were released back into the wild, and 55 pets were returned to their owners.

If you are in Florida Virtual School then this chart should be familiar to you.

I would choose A and B. It could be A because you have to relate a cause-and-effect writing piece to a specific event. It could be B because in order to show the consequences, you need to know the causes.

Can someone proof read this:How are the characters affected by the Nazi regime thus far?

The time and place has a huge impact on the characters and their everyday life. For starters, Liesel lost her entire biological family due to the rule of Nazis. Her communist father was taken away by the government, and trying to do the best for her daughter and son, her mother leaves her home and takes a journey to Munich to give her children to a foster family. Due to the lack of strength in Werner’s, Liesel’s brother, immune system, he dies on the train on the way there. Her brother was then buried and that’s where Liesel stole her first book. Liesel and her mother then travel to Munich and meet Hans and Rosa, and Leisel starts living with them. Thus far, we see changes in Liesel’s life. The obvious are all negative, such as her entire family collapses and Liesel has to change her entire life, but there are positives too. For example, due to her brother dying and the funeral commencing, and her stealing a book, Liesel found her passion for books, and met Hans, who changed her life incredibly. But Leisel was not the the only one affected. Hans used to paint houses, and most of his customers were Jewish, meaning Jews provided him his main income source. But when the diastrous events of the Holocaust and WW2 happened, Hans and Rosa had to find other ways to make it by. And speaking of Rosa, her job of delivering the laundry steadily declined in customers as WW2 had many people strained to make ends meet.
