North: The political views were split into 2 groups: the union workers who wanted better conditions and higher pay, and the entrepreneurs who wanted to increase the profit for their business.  

South: Laws segregated and discriminated against the remaining african american communities. Many african americans left the south to move to new areas where they had a higher chance to succeed.  

West: Differences between cultures of chinese immigrants and white settlers led to discriminatory laws being placed upon the chinese people.

North:  The north’s industry resulted in an extremely noticeable gap between the miners and the owners of the businesses. Workers began to unionize while entrepreneurs wanted to increase profit.

West: There was tension between white settlers and asian immigrants leading to riots on the chinese side after discriminatory laws were passed.    

Midwest: The gap between rich and poor was large causing friction between the workers and the entrepreneurs.

North: The north had a huge steel industry in pennsylvania. The north also had lots of coal as well that drove their economy.

South: The south returned partially to agriculture work, though without the use of slave labor the south needed to delve into new industries. In the Appalachian mountains there were coal deposits discovered, also in Birmingham, AL there were steel deposits and manufacturers made.

West: The west’s economy was almost purely based on natural resources due to there not being any concentrations of population allowing for manufacturing.

Midwest: The midwest’s economy was based on farming and manufacturing. The northern states became hubs for manufacturing while the southern midwest states became home to farmers

North: The north’s population increased due to imigration from European and Asian communities.

South: The south’s population decreased during the 2nd industrial revolution due to african americans leaving the area due to the oppressive laws enforced upon them.  

West: The west’s population increased due to settlement around natural resources mainly Coal, Iron, Oil, and Gold. The west also received many immigrants from china and japan during this period.

Midwest: The midwest’s population boomed in the northern great lake cities such as detroit and chicago, this was due to european and asian immigration,  

Transportation

North: Over 200,000 miles of railroad would be layed during the 2nd industrial revolution in the north.

South: New railway would be sparse and essential in the post-civil war south. The rebuilding of railways would not be finished until 1880.

West: The completion of the transcontinental railroad completed the connection between the east and the west during the 2nd industrial revolution.

Midwest: Chicago became the rail gateway from the East to the West. Rails laid allowed for steel mined in the north to be transported down to the midwest states where, it would be manufactured into the parts and tools needed, then it would be transported across the great plains to the west and south.
