Read the excerpt from The Remains of the Day by Kazuo Ishiguro. Based on sentence structure, what is the pacing of the excerpt? Why?For the truth was, it was extremely refreshing to be out in the summerhouse after many continuous days in the main building and neither of us was inclined to hurry with our tasks. Indeed, although one could not see out far that day on account of the encroaching mist, and the daylight too was rapidly fading by this stage, . . . I remember our often breaking off from our respective activities simply to gaze out at the views around us.

PLEASE HELP... TYSM IN ADVANCEWrite a journal entry of five to ten complete sentences. What did you think about the way Annie Sullivan handled her first day at the Kellers’ house? Be specific.

Answers

Answer:

They are skeptical and concerned about entrusting Helen to somebody else.

The Keller family members have differing opinions about Helen’s intelligence and capacity for learning because she is deaf and does not speak.

She was considered a bright but spoiled and strong-willed child.

She wanted to help Helen because she was just like her and she knew how she feels and all.

Sullivan showed great maturity and ingenuity in teaching Keller.

Explanation:

At only 20 years of age, Sullivan showed great maturity and ingenuity in teaching Keller. She wanted to help Keller make associations between words and physical objects, and worked hard with her rather stubborn and spoiled pupil. After isolating Keller from her family in order to better educate her, Sullivan began working to teach Keller how to communicate with the outside world. During one lesson, she finger-spelled the word "water" on one of Keller's hands as she ran water over her student's other hand. Keller finally made her first major breakthrough, connecting the concept of sign language with the objects around her.

In the beginning of The Miracle Worker, Helen is extremely willful. Her family has never challenged her. Annie realizes she must first figure out how to control her behavior and teach Helen self-restraint. After she sees progress in this area, she begins to teach Helen hand symbols for various objects. At first, Helen views the hand symbols as merely a repetition game, and she fails to connect the symbols to the objects.

Although Annie is hopeful that this repetition will work eventually, her doubts are so overwhelming that she asks the Kellers for complete control over Helen. They are skeptical and concerned about entrusting Helen to somebody else, but Annie feels that it is necessary for Helen’s progress. She believes that Helen will fall back into old habits when she is under the care of her parents.

Once Helen’s parents give Annie this control, the teacher uses every method to keep Helen motivated, including repetition, force, and even resentment. One might watch the play and think, “Wow, she is tough with Helen!” But keeping in mind Annie’s past and understanding her goals with Helen, a hint of hope can be seen as she works in an uncompromising manner with Helen.

Choose the sentence in which the passive voice is used. A)The show was awarded a prize by the local drama club. B) George Bernard Shaw wrote that play. C) The cast members designed the costumes and backdrops.

Answers

Answer:

A)The show was awarded a prize by the local drama club.

Explanation:

The passive voice is made up of the appropriate form of the verb "to be" + the past participle of the main verb and it is used to put emphasis on who or what receives or experience an action instead of the one who performs the action, and it

Sentence A uses the passive voice because it puts the focus on the thing that was awarded a prince: The show, instead of the people who gave the price; it uses the appropriate form of the verb "to be" in simple past: was and the past participle awarded that comes from the verb award.

The correct answer is A. The show was awarded a prize by the local drama club.

Explanation:

In the English language, the active voice follows a subject, verb, and object structure. On the opposite, in the passive voice, the object is the first element, followed by a verb that includes a form of the verb to be or auxiliary and the main verb in past participle, and finally, the verb is followed by the subject, although this can be omitted. In this way, the subject is the least important element or it is passive. According to this, the passive voice sentence is "The show was awarded a prize by the local drama club" as in this the object is first "the show", then the verb includes the auxiliary verb "was" and the past participle "awarded" and finally there is the subject the local drama club.
