Sodiun atom, potassium atom, and cesium atoms have the same ?

Answers

Answer:

They have similar chemical properties

Explanation:

Hi, those elements all belong to the Group I of the periodic table meaning that they share not only similar electronic configuration (1 electron of valence) but also they have similar chemical properties, being those more marked the higher the atomic number.

  • An example of that shared properties is that all of them react violently with water, being cesium the most violent.

A solution of ammonia has a pH of 11.8. What is the concentration of OH– ions in the solution? Useful formulas..

Answers

The concentration of hydroxideions in the given aqueous solution is equal to  6.3 ×10⁻³ M.

What is the pOH?

pOH can be calculated from the negative logarithm of the concentration of hydroxideions in the given aqueous solution.

Mathematically, the formula of the pOH can be represented as shown below:

pOH = - log ([OH⁻ ])

and pH  +  pOH  =  14                                                       ..............(1)

Where [OH⁻] is representing the concentration of hydroxide ions in an aqueous solution.

Given, the value of the pH of the ammonia solution, pH = 11.8

Substitute the value of the pH in equation (1):

pH + pOH  =  14

11.8  - log [OH⁻] = 14

- log [OH⁻] = 14 -11.8

log [OH⁻] = - 2.2

[OH⁻] = 6.3 × 10⁻³ M

Therefore, the concentration of the hydroxideions is equal to 6.3 ×10⁻³ M.

They are asking you for OH- ions concentration, which is why you have to find the pOH of the solution. You can easily do this with this formula:

pH + pOH = 14

Solve for pOH and you get:

pOH = 14 - pH

Replace the pH with it's value:

pOH = 14 - 11.8
pOH = 2.2

Now that you have the pOH you can find the concentration of OH- ions with this formula:

pOH = -log[OH-]

Solve the formula for [OH-] and you get:

[OH-] = 10^(-pOH)

Now replace pOH with it's value:

[OH-] = 10^(-2.2)
[OH-] = 0.006309 M

The concentration of OH- atoms is 0.006309M or in the scientific notation 6.309×10^(-3)M

The point at which a substance is at complete equilibrium is called? User: a hydrogen bond is a special form of what type of bond

Answers

I don't know what the answer to your first question is. All of my teachers have only called it the equilibrium point.  However for your second question, a hydrogen bond is a special type of dipole-dipole attraction.  Only oxygen, nitrogen, and fluorine are able to make them when bonded with hydrogen.  Hydrogen bonding is what makes water have such a high boiling point considering how light the molecule is.

Which statement explains why a C–O bond ismore polar than a F–O bond?
(1) At STP, carbon has a greater density than
fluorine.
(2) A carbon atom has more valence electrons
than a fluorine atom.
(3) The difference in electronegativity between
carbon and oxygen is greater than that
between fluorine and oxygen.
(4) The difference in first ionization energy
between carbon and oxygen is greater than
that between fluorine and oxygen.

Answers

Answer: (3) The difference in electronegativity between  carbon and oxygen is greater than that  between fluorine and oxygen.

Explanation: Polarity of a molecule is due to the difference in electronegativity of the atoms. More is the electronegativity difference, more is the polarity.

Electronegativity of carbon = 2.5

Electronegativity of oxygen = 3.5

Electronegativity of fluorine = 4.0

Thus the difference in electronegativity of carbon and oxygen is=(3.5-2.5)= 1.0

Thus the difference in electronegativity of fluorine and oxygen is=(4.0-3.5)= 0.5.

Thus C-O bond is more polar than F-O bond.

The correct answer is statement 3, the difference in electronegativity between carbon and oxygen is greater than that between fluorine and oxygen. The most polar bond is the one with the highest difference in electronegativity values between two atoms. In this case, the C-O bond.
