n London, King Charles I is beheaded for treason on January 30, 1649.

Charles ascended to the English throne in 1625 following the death of his father, King James I. In the first year of his reign, Charles offended his Protestant subjects by marrying Henrietta Maria, a Catholic French princess. He later responded to political opposition to his rule by dissolving Parliament on several occasions and in 1629 decided to rule entirely without Parliament. In 1642, the bitter struggle between king and Parliament for supremacy led to the outbreak of the first English civil war.

The Parliamentarians were led by Oliver Cromwell, whose formidable Ironsides force won an important victory against the king’s Royalist forces at Marston Moor in 1644 and at Naseby in 1645. As a leader of the New Model Army in the second English civil war, Cromwell helped repel the Royalist invasion of Scotland, and in 1646 Charles surrendered to a Scottish army. In 1648, Charles was forced to appear before a high court controlled by his enemies, where he was convicted of treason and sentenced to death. Early in the next year, he was beheaded.

The monarchy was abolished, and Cromwell assumed control of the new English Commonwealth. In 1658, Cromwell died and was succeeded by his eldest son, Richard, who was forced to flee to France in the next year with the restoration of the monarchy and the crowning of Charles II, the son of Charles I. Oliver Cromwell was posthumously convicted of treason, and his body was disinterred from its tomb in Westminster Abbey and hanged from the gallows at Ty burn.

Who could use the headright system to acquire land for himself and work growing crops?

Answers

Final answer:

The headright system in Virginia allowed anyone who could pay their own passage to the New World to earn land. This included individuals, families, and indentured servants who had completed their terms of service. The land could then be used for farming, often tobacco.

Explanation:

The headright system was a system implemented by the Virginia Company to attract more settlers to the New World. Any individual person who paid his own way to Virginia would receive fifty acres of land. Additionally, for every indentured servant or family member brought, an additional fifty acres were granted. Therefore, anyone, including indentured servants who completed their service, could use the headright system to acquire land for themselves and grow crops. This was a powerful incentive for English migrants to take the perilous journey to the New World.

Besides, indentured servants who completed their service often began new lives as tobacco planters, taking advantage of the headright system. However, not only individuals but also larger companies that could afford to bring more people received essentially large tracts of land, changing the socio-economic structure of the New World.

What is the purpose of a potential party's platform

Answers

A political party platform or platform is a list of the values and actions which are supported by apolitical party or individual candidate, in order to appeal to the general public, for the ultimate purpose of garnering the general public's support and votes about complicated topics or issues. "Plank" is the term often given to the components of the political platform – the opinions and viewpoints about individual topics, as held by a party, person, or organization. The word "plank" depicts a component of an overall political platform, as a metaphorical reference to a basic stage made out of boards or planks of wood. The metaphor can return to its literal origin when public speaking or debates are actually held upon a physical platform.
