The term which is used to define an initial amount of money that is borrowed or invested is:

                    Principal amount

Step-by-step explanation:

Principal amount--

It is the amount or sum of money that is borrowed or invested for some purpose.

In context of borrowing a person borrows this amount and at the time of repaying his loan he has to pay this amount and the extra amount is to be paid which is the interest on the loan.

Similarly in context of investment a principal amount is to be invested and then the interest is gained on the amount.

Answer:

36√(3) -12\pi

Step-by-step explanation:

The area of the shaded portion, we have to calculate.

Now, join C and O to form two right triangles Δ AOC and Δ BOC.

Now, from Δ AOC,

\tan 60 = (AC)/(AO) = (x)/(6)

x = 6√3

So, area of Δ AOC = (1)/(2) * 6 * 6√(3)  = 18√(3)

Due to symmetry area of Δ BOC will also be 18√3.

Now, area of quadrilateral OACB is 2 × 18√3 = 36√3

Now, area covered by the arc AB about center O will be (120)/(360) * \pi r^(2) = 12\pi

Therefore, the area of the shaded portion is 36√(3) -12\pi (Answer)

Here is what i THINK it wants: I think that each x represents the number of each material purchased and what you are looking for is the frequency at which each item was bought each month. Again, this is my guess but this question is very strange.
I believe that the number of students are the numbers on the left and the x's are amount ($6) spent that month so I multiplied the amount of students with the number of X's or 6 and I found the there are 70 students in this and all together they spent $27780 in 4 months.
