Explain how cobalt-60 and cobalt -59 can be the same element but have different mass numbers

Answers

Answer 1
Answer: The number of protons and the atomic number are the same for both forms of cobalt, but the number of neutrons varies for each cobalt ion.

The first major source of oxygen gas was _____.a. volcanic outgassing
b. meteorite impacts
c. cyanobacteria
d. banded iron formations

Answers

The first major source of life on Earth was c. cyanobacteria. These organisms produce food by using energy from the sun; they are photosynthetic organisms. Over millions of years these organisms used CO2 in the air for photosynthesis and released oxygen as a byproduct. Over time oxygen concentrations rose high enough to support life.
The word that best fits in the blank in the sentence, "The first major source of oxygen gas was _____" is cyanobacteria. Thus, the answer is letter C. Cyanobacteria are blue-green algae and they are believed to have caused the "great Oxidation Event".

if a jar of honey sits for a long time, sugar may crystallize in the jar.describe two possible cause for this crystallization?

Answers

Answer:

Temperature and humidity

Explanation:

Crystallization occurs in super saturated solution. These are the solutions that have solute to solvent ratio of 2:1 or more. Typical honey is 70% sugar and 20% water (the solute concentration is too high).

Two things cause honey to crystallize.

  1. Temperature
  2. Humidity level

If temperature is lowered the rate of crystallization increases. This is because at low temperature the molecules of solvent come closer and the space between them reduces. This causes the additional solute molecules to be pushed up to form crystals.

Secondly, humidity also plays a key role. If the humidity reduces, the water molecules evaporates from honey into air. This increases the relative concentration of the solute inside the honey, which causes the honey to crystallize.

The two possible causes for crystallization in honey is 1. The condition of the room. (if the temperature keeps rising and dropping rapidly) 2. Crystallization rate also depends on the type of honey you keep in your cabinet. There are 300 different kinds of honey and each type crystalizes differently

10.0 grams of a gas occupies 12.5 liters at a pressure of 42.0 mm Hg. What is the volume when the pressure has increased to 75.0 mm Hg? 0.143 L 6.72 L 7.00 L 22.3 L

Answers

 To solve this we assume that the gas is an ideal gas. Then, we can use the ideal gas equation which is expressed as PV = nRT. At a constant temperature and number of moles of the gas the product of PV is equal to some constant. At another set of condition of temperature, the constant is still the same. Calculations are as follows:

P1V1 =P2V2

V2 = P1 x V1 / P2

V2 = 42.0 x 12.5 / 75.0

V2 = 7.0 L

Answer:

7.00 L

Explanation:

The only thing that varies between the two situations is pressure and volume.

we have the ideal gas equation

PV=nrT

We know that n = moles of substance remain constant, also the temperature and n corresponding to the ideal gas constant

Situation N1

P_1= 42.0 mmHg\nV_1= 12.5 L \nP_1V_1=nrT

Situation N2

P_2= 75mmHg\nV_2= ?\nP_2V_2=nrT

As nrT are equal both times, therefore we can match this term in both equations

Ecuation N1\nP_1V_1=nrT\nEcuation N2\n P_2V_2=nrT\n

We equate both equations

P_2V_2=P_1V_1\nV_2=(P_1V_1)/(P_2)

V_2=(42mmHg.12.5 L)/(75.0 mmHg) \nV_2= 7.00L
