This led to Thomas Jefferson sending out the more famous Lewis & Clark Expedition, as well as many others to establish relations with groups of people living west as well as explore the land, it's greenery, and it's animals. Without these expeditions, the Louisiana Purchase would have been known as Jefferson's folly, and would have taken longer for US citizens to start the move west.
