How does a magnet separate mixtures?

Answers

Answer 1
Answer: It can only do that when  one of the components of the mixture is a magnetic
material.

When you have that situation, you pass the magnet over the mixture ... shaking
the mixture if it's a dry mixture of powders or pieces ... and the magnetic part of
the mixture moves toward the magnet, while the nonmagnetic parts of the mixture
couldn't care less about the magnet and they just stay where they are.
Answer 2
Answer: It will separate when one of the elements found in the mixture is magnetic. This process can't be done in a compound as a compound is chemically bonded!

Which metal does not form cations of differing charges? ( Which metal is NOT a transition metal?)A) Na

B) Cu

C) Co

D) Fe

E) Sn

Answers

The metal that does not form cations of differing charges is Sodium (Na).

The transition metals refers to the group of metals which one can find in the middle of a periodic table. Some of the metals that are able to form cations with different charges include:

  • Chronium (Cr)
  • Iron (Fe)
  • Cobalt (Co)
  • Copper (Cu)
  • Tin (Sn) ,
  • Mercury (Hg)
  • Lead (Pb)

It should be noted that Sodium (Na) is a metal metal that does not form cations of differing charges.

Therefore, the correct option is A.

Answer: D) carbon dioxide + carbon - oxygen

Explanation: In the gas phase, carbon dioxide molecules undergo significant vibrational motions and do not keep a fixed structure. However, in a Coulomb explosion imaging experiment, an instantaneous image of the molecular structure can be deduced. Such an experiment has been performed for carbon dioxide. The result of this experiment, and the conclusion of theoretical calculations based on an ab initio potential energy surface of the molecule, is that none of the molecules in the gas phase are ever exactly linear. This counter-intuitive result is trivially due to the fact that the nuclear motion volume element vanishes for linear geometries. This is so for all molecules (except diatomics!).
