It seems wonderful that so frail and lovely a plant has such power over human hearts. This Calypso meeting happened some forty-five years ago, and it was more memorable and impressive than any of my meetings with human beings excepting, perhaps, Emerson and one or two others. When I was leaving the University, Professor J.D. Butler said, "John, I would like to know what becomes o you, and I wish you would write me, say once a year, so I may keep you in sight." I wrote to the Professor, telling him about this meeting with Calypso, and he sent the letter to an Eastern newspaper [The Boston Recorder] with some comments of his own. How do you spell weiner

Answers

In many cases, you can't nail down the spelling of a word without knowing
what it means.

You didn't tell us what your word means, so there are different possibilities.
Here are a few:

-- In old German, a wagon driver was a wagner (VOG-nair) or weiner(VEIN-air).
As the Yiddish language (spoken among German Jews) developed from old high
German, some of them used the same word 'weiner' to mean 'one who makes or
sells wine'.  The word came to the New World as a family name, spelled "Viner",
(as in my first high school crush).

-- The ancient city of Vienna, now the capital of modern Austria, is called "Wien"
(VEEN) in the languages around there.  A person who was born or raised there
is called a Wiener (VEEN-air).  Also, a small sausage that became popular there
was also called a Wiener. That's where we got the slang term 'weener' for a hot
dog or anything that resembles one.

-- A little kid who whimpers and whines all the time is called a whiner.

So the spelling really often depends on what your word means.  That's one
reason why, in a spelling bee, they always give you a sentence along with
the word.

Hi Cynthia,

How are you doing in this period? I believe you are coping in this period of pandemic and total lockdown. Everything will be alright in no time.

You have always told me that we should always be willing to render assistance whenever situations call for it, you said we might be saving a whole nation. This is a true saying my friend as I have a first hand experience to share. I was going home after work on a very dark night last week when I found a body lying down lifelessly near a bush path. I was dead scared and wanted to drive off but I remembered your words and became uncomfortable with the decision I made. I stopped and came down to observe the body, then I noticed it still had some life. There was nobody around to help and I managed to carry the man into the vehicle all alone and take him to a nearby hospital without minding the security and legal  implications of my actions. I was very unsure that anything good could result from what I did, I thought he would still die. He was given medical attention and he survived. Miracle, right?

When he got well he introduced himself as a lawyer and he was shot by armed robbers while going to his office to get some case files. The armed robbers collected his vehicle and all other valuables on him and left him to die. In the course of the discussion, I got to know that he was the lawyer trying to help our family concerning our brother who was indicted of murder and he is the only one that has all the information required to prevent him from going to jail. I never met the man before now but my father has always talked about him and I have spoken to him once on phone. I thank God I did not jettison the spirit that insisted that I must help him.

I learnt a great the from the whole experience. If you help anyone in time of need you are not only saving a nation, you might be saving yourself. Thank you Cynthia for instilling in me that wonderful virtue, you are the best. I hope to receive an email from you soon.

Best Regards.

B) He devotes most of his time to the Underground Railroad, which he believed in.
C) He devoted most of his time to the Underground Railroad, which he had believed in.
D) He has devoted most of his time to the Underground Railroad, which he believed in.

Answers

The sentence that contains consistency in verb tense is  "He devoted most of his time to the Underground Railroad, which he believed in." The correct answer is option A.

The sentence that contains consistency in verb tense is option A) "He devoted most of his time to the Underground Railroad, which he believed in."

In this sentence, both verbs "devoted" and "believed" are in the past tense. The past tense is used to describe actions or states that happened or existed in the past. Therefore, the verb tense remains consistent throughout the sentence.

Option B) "He devotes most of his time to the Underground Railroad, which he believed in" uses present tense for "devotes" and past tense for "believed." This creates a mismatch in verb tense, as one verb is in the present tense and the other is in the past tense.

Option C) "He devoted most of his time to the Underground Railroad, which he had believed in" uses the past perfect tense "had believed." This suggests that the belief occurred before the devotion, which creates a mismatch in verb tense.

Option D) "He has devoted most of his time to the Underground Railroad, which he believed in" uses the present perfect tense "has devoted." This tense suggests an ongoing action that started in the past and continues into the present. However, the verb "believed" is in the past tense, which creates a mismatch in verb tense.

Therefore, option A) is the sentence that contains consistency in verb tense because both verbs "devoted" and "believed" are in the past tense, indicating actions that occurred in the past.
