Why do scientists use different types of models to represent compounds

Answers

Answer 1
Answer:

Answer is: scientists use different types of model to show different characteristics (chemical properties) of compound.

For example, ball and stick model gives informations about bond lenght and space filling model gives information about space occupied by atoms.

In chemistry, the ball-and-stick model is a molecular model of a chemical substance which is to display both the three-dimensional position of the atoms and the bonds between them.   The atoms are represented by spheres, connected by rods which represent the bonds. Every ball represent one atom in one molecule and they have different colors for different atoms (for example, carbon is black, hydrogen is white, nitrogen is blue).

There also other models: skeletal models, polyhedral models, composite models, computer-based models.

The concentration of an acid or base is defined as the ratio of the amount ofO A. solvent to the amount of solute in a solution
O B. conjugate acid to conjugate base
O C. conjugate base to conjugate acid
OD. solute to the amount of solvent in a solution

Answers

Answer:

Option  C

Explanation:

A buffer  aqueous solution  consists of

a) either a weak acid along with its conjugate base

b) or a weak base along with its conjugate acid.

This is used to prevent change in the pH of a solution whenever an acid or a base is added. The pH of a buffer depends upon the ratio of base to acid and this ratio is determined by the Ka value and Henderson-Hasselbalch equation. An ideal buffer has equal amounts of acid and conjugate base

Hence, option C is correct

How many total atoms are in 0.380 g of P2O5

Answers

The gram formula mass of P2O5 is 31*2 + 16*5 =142. The mole number of P2O5 is 0.380/142=0.00268 mol. There is 7 atom in one P2O5 molecule. And there is 6.02 * 10^23 molecule per mol. So the answer is 1.13*10^22 atoms.

Although incineration can break down harmful chemicals, the byproduct is hazardous.a. True
b. False

Answers

Answer:  The given statement is true.

Explanation:

Incineration: It is a technique in which organic substance present in waste material is burned down to break them into its components.

For: Example : Burning of powder of wooden chips gives carbon dioxide gas ,nitrogen-dioxide in small amounts and heat energy.

Although incineration can break down harmful chemicals but the by-product formed are hazardous because:

  • Oxides of nitrogen and sulfurs are also released which pollutes the air and becomes the main cause for acid rains.
  • Green house gases are produced which disturbs the balance of atmosphere and climate.
  • Increases air pollution by which it becomes unfit to breathe in.
  • Also pollutes soil.

Hence, the given statement is true.

How to figure out if compounds are electrolytes

Answers

An electrolyte is a compound that dissolved into its ions when placed into a solvent such as water (the ions can carry an electric charge). An easy way to test whether something is an electrolyte is by placing the substance in Deionized water and testing if the resulting solution can carry a current. If the resulting solution can carry a current, the substance is an electrolyte. I hope this helps. Let me know if anything is unclear.

What is the number of pairs of electrons that are shared between the nitrogen atoms in a molecule of N2?(1) 1(2) 2(3) 3(4) 6

Answers

The answer is (3) 3. The sharing of electrons is important to help elements get 8 electrons in the outer shell to be stable. To achieve this aim, the nitrogen needs to share three pairs of electrons.

The number of pairs of electrons that are shared between nitrogen atoms in a molecule of {{\text{N}}_{\text{2}}} is \boxed{\left( 3 \right){\text{ 3}}}.

Further explanation:

Covalent Bond

It is a type of chemical bond where electrons are mutually shared between the bonded atoms. This bond is also known as a molecular bond. The compounds formed as a result of this bonding are covalent compounds.

Octet Rule

It is a thumb rule that describes the tendency of elements to bond with other elements in order to acquire eight valence electrons. As a result, elements tend to achieve stable noble gas configuration.

The atomic number of nitrogen is 7 and it has an electronic configuration of 1{s^2}2{s^2}2{p^3}. Nitrogen has five valence electrons in it and is three electrons short of the stable noble gas configuration of neon. So it can share three electrons with another nitrogen atom to complete its octet. As a result, three covalent bonds are formed between two nitrogen atoms. In other words, nitrogen atoms have a triple bond between them in   molecule (For structure, refer to the attached image).
