Which of the following statements about vocabulary building is not correct?A. Reading on a daily basis is very important for building your vocabulary.
B. Pronunciation is an important part of adding new words to your vocabulary.
C. Using the dictionary is only one step in the process of vocabulary building.
D. The best way to improve your vocabulary is to memorize lists of vocabulary words.

Answers

Answer 1
Answer: I'm actually not sure about the answer here. I am certain that A and C are correct answers, as reading is definitely important for word building, as well as using a dictionary is. But B and D are dubious. Because, when you don't know how a certain word is pronounced, you will usually look it up in the dictionary, you will see the way it is pronounced, but also what it means, so that way you can build your vocabulary. And again, if you memorize lists of words, it is a way of building your vocabulary. So the incorrect sentence is either B or D.

Read this excerpt from Common Sense:Wherefore, since nothing but blows will do, forGod's sake, let us come to a final separation, andnot leave the next generation to be cuttingthroats, under the violated unmeaning names ofparent and child.Which is the most prominent kind of rhetorical appeal Thomas Paine uses here?

Answers

Answer:

Pathos

Explanation:

The rhetorical appeal that Paine most clearly uses here is that of pathos. Pathos is the name given to an appeal to emotion. In this passage, Paine tells us that nothing seems to be effective when trying to solve the problems between the colonists and England except for fighting. He argues that if that is indeed the case, then they should go ahead, instead of delaying the necessary process. He appeals to emotion by talking about "blows," "cutting throats" and the "violated unmeaning names of parent and child."

Thomes Paine is expressing his dis corn with the way the parent sense that a generation is doomed to be throw out to dye if nothing is dun.

Using the punctuation clues below, which of the following is a magazine article? "Modern Sewing" Modern Sewing (Italicized)
Modern Sewing (Underlined)
"Modern Sewing" (Italicized)

Answers

Answer:

"Modern Sewing"

Explanation:

In MLA, titles of books, journals, magazines, and websites should be underlined.  However, titles of articles, episodes, interviews, and songs should be in quotes. Since the question is asking about a magazine article, we know the title should be in quotes.

Answer:

The correct punctuation shows that the one that is a magazine article is "Modern Sewing"

Explanation:

According to the rules of punctuation in the case of titles or written work we have to:

* Italicize titles of works, which in this case includes a magazine.

* Use quotation marks for shorter works, this talks about the specific work inside of a bigger one such as a magazine article.

Then even when it refers to a magazine, it does not talk about the title of the magazine but to the article inside of it so the only option that covers all is "Modern Sewing"

What argument does the author anticipate and refute in this excerpt from the Declaration of Independence?"Nor have We been wanting in attentions to our British brethren. We have warned them from time to time of attempts by their legislature to extend an unwarrantable jurisdiction over us. We have reminded them of the circumstances of our emigration and settlement here. We have appealed to their native justice and magnanimity, and we have conjured them by the ties of our common kindred to disavow these usurpations, which, would inevitably interrupt our connections and correspondence. They too have been deaf to the voice of justice and of consanguinity."

A) If the American colonists are unhappy with the king, they should appeal to Parliament.

B) Most British Parliament members sympathize with the plight of the American colonies.

C) The American colonies are well represented in the British Parliament and have no right to blame the king.

D) The allegations against the king made by the colonists are without proof and unjustified.

Answers

Answer:

A) If the American colonists are unhappy with the king, they should appeal to Parliament.

Explanation:

Parliament enacted and passed taxes for the Empire all in all. The colonists were spoken to for all intents and purposes in Parliament despite the fact that they chose no specific agents. The colonists expected that on the off chance that they permitted any of these charges gone by Parliament, at that point there would be one duty after another. They would be completely denied of their property.

The declaration of independence written by Stephen Lucas portrayed the colonists as  victims of the drama. He stated also the separation of the Americans and the English people. In these lines given, the answer to this problem is A describing the Americans as the colonists and the British people as the colonies.
