you have the correct answer. the answer is A. remember that a modifier is a word that adds more description to an action, but the sentence would still make sense without it. so if you need to do another problem like this, try taking out the word in italics to see if the sentence still makes sense. if it does, you have chosen the correct modifier. Please read this and answer the question. This is for 20 points."All Watched Over by Machines of Loving Grace"
By Richard Brautigan
I like to think (and
the sooner the better!)
of a cybernetic meadow
where mammals and computers
live together in mutually
programming harmony
like pure water
touching clear sky.

I like to think
(right now, please!)
of a cybernetic forest
filled with pines and electronics
where deer stroll peacefully
past computers
as if they were flowers
with spinning blossoms.

I like to think
(it has to be!)
of a cybernetic ecology
where we are free of our labors
and joined back to nature,
returned to our mammal
brothers and sisters,
and all watched over
by machines of loving grace.

The statements, "and the sooner the better!" and "it has to be!" from "All Watched Over by Machines of Loving Grace" develop the speaker as
a. conversational
b. indirect
c. urgent
d. vague

Answers

The best option would be that the statements, "and the sooner the better!" and "it has to be!" all contribute to the speaker coming across as being "urgent", since these phrases are associated with impatience.

The statements, "and the sooner the better!" and "it has to be!" connote a sense of urgency, as if the author wants the actions depicted to occur now and not later, this is further conveyed by the use of exclamation marks in both phrases. So the correct answer would be option C: "urgent". Options A, C and D are incorrect because those statements don't convey a conversational tone, and they are not vague or indirect, quite the contrary.
