Glycolysis and the citric acid cycle comprise two different sets of oxidation reactions. thereaction sequence for glycolysis is linear, whereas the reaction sequence for the citirc acid cycle forms a circle. how does this difference in the arrangement of reactions influence the rate of these processes when an excess amount of a single intermediate is added?

Answers

Answer 1
Answer: I think that when an excess amount of one intermediate is added to the citric acid cycle, it will cause an increase in all the intermediates, this is because it will be continuously cycled through the cycle. On the other hand, if one intermediate is added to the process of glycolysis, there will be no increase in all the intermediates as the process ends once the two pyruvates molecules are formed. The intermediate will thus, build up and will not be cycled to form more product.

All of the following describe the image above except __________.A.
neural communication
B.
neurotransmitter release
C.
hormone release
D.
nervous system functioning

Answers

Ans.

The image below represents neural transduction that involves release of signaling molecules or neurotransmitters by axon terminal of one nerve cell and binding of the released neurotransmitters with the receptors, present on dendrites of another nerve cell. It is method of communication between the neurons. Hence, the image is showing a functional nervous system.

On the other hands, hormones are released by endocrine glands that release their content directly into the blood. The nervous transmission does not include hormone release.

Thus, the correct answer is option C). 'hormone release.'

Enzyme, antibody, hormone, and muscle are roles played by _____.carbohydrates
proteins
lipids
nucleic acids

Answers

Answer:

Proteins.

Explanation:

Protein is one of the major biomolecule of living organisms and acts as a main building block of the body. Proteins are the polymers of amino acids.

Most of the enzymes present in living organism are made upof proteins. Antibodies made up of heavy and light chains are the constituent of proteins. Hormones like insulin, glucagon and epinephrine are proteinaceous in nature. Muscle contains protein like actin, myosin and nebulin. Hence, protein can act as antibody, enzyme, muscle and hormone.

Thus, the correct answer is option 2.

Protiens. They also help control the rate of reactions. The attached picture is the polymer I created if it helps any if you need th elements it is made out of.

It is true that potatoes turn green on he kitchen window sill. Potatoes turn green when they come in contact with sunlight. This is because of an enzyme secretion that happens. The potato still remains edible but the skin might taste a bit bitter. With temperature rise the greenness of the potato also increases.

A researcher has decided to lesion different parts of a cat’s brain and observe the effects on the cat’s behavior. After the surgery, the researcher notices that the cat is having trouble walking in a straight line. The cat also does not respond to the researcher randomly blowing a whistle like it did before the surgery. The researcher also noted that the cat’s sleep/wake cycle has changed since the surgery. What part of the brain did the researcher most likely lesion?

Answers

Answer:

reticular formation

Explanation:

  • A matrix consisting of nerve fibers as well as cell bodies of the neurons that form a greater part of the core of the brainstem is termed as the reticular formation.
  • The reticular formation extends from the medulla to the intralaminar nuclei of the thalamus.
  • The main function of the neurons of the reticular formation is to maintain consciousness and motor arousal.

In brief this region controls the following :

1. somatic motor control

2. cardiovascular control

3. sleep

4. consciousness

5. habituation

6. pain modulation

Since the cat is having problems with the sleep-wake cycle, does not respond to the researcher, there is a change in behavior and inability to walk on straight line. This points out to damage in the reticular formation.
