Define in your own words the following terms; then describe their significance in the development of puritan religion. Terms to define: Puritan, Pilgrim, Protestant, Christian, Calvinist.

Answers

Puritan : a person with strict morals and religious principles.

  • Puritans believe that everything is predestined the moment you are born. They have strict rules to follow such as attending church all the time, praying to God whenever, sex after marriage, doing good deeds so you can go to Heaven, etc.

Pilgrims : a group of individuals that moves places for religious reasons

  • Significant to the puritan religion because they were first pilgrims that moved away from the Roman Catholic in Europe to settle in the New World to have a different religion.

Protestant : a branch of Christianity that believes Jesus is the head of the church, instead of the priest. They are simply Christians who wish to worship without central authority, without a buffer between man and God.

  • The puritans separated from the Roman Catholic church because they had different beliefs than those of Catholics. They saw the wrongdoings of the church, and wanted to create a new religion where you can be connected to God without giving money to the church.

Christian : a person that believes in Jesus Christ as their Saviour, or the Messiah.

  • Protestants and Catholics fall into this because both religions believes in Jesus Christ.

Calvinist : a person who believes in predestination, and that doing something is wrong makes it a sinful act against God.

  • Puritans were hardcore believers of this, and they would do anything to go to Heaven.

Answer:

Puritans were people who broke away from the Catholic church, they wanted to simplify the teachings.  Pilgrims are people who travel to foreign places. The Puritans were pilgrims because they voyaged to the New World. Protestants are any denomination besides the roman catholic church. Since the Puritans broke away from the Catholic church and celebrated only some parts of Christianity, they are protestant. Christianity accounted for anyone who believed in Jesus Christ. The Puritans embraced their Christian beliefs and the simplicity of it all. Calvinists were people who believed in predestination. They believed also that any purposeful wrongdoing or mistake is a sin in God's eyes and he would hold it against them. Puritans embraced this belief wholeheartedly because they really wanted to make it to heaven.

How can ordinary people be special?

Answers

There are many, many, answers.

One way is by being the best at what they do, for example being the most original/ordinary at a certain thing.

Another way is by still being ordinary if they chose to be, but perhaps spontaneous once in awhile.

Finally, I would contradict this question by implying the fact that everyone is already special in there own way, and that the biggest challenge is making yourself believe that.

If you're living consciously,  you're pretty special, so basically the simple fact that you are human.

Hope this helps!

Ordinary people can be special because they could change the world and make it a better place id they want to.
