How can a mixture of nails and sawdust be most efficiently separated into its component parts?

Answers

Answer 1
Answer: I am pretty sure that sawdust float in water so you could dump the mixture in water so that all of the sawdust float on the surface while the nails sink to the bottom.

You might also be able to use a strong magnet since nails are usually magnetic while sawdust is not.

I hope this helps.  Let me know if anything is unclear or if you need a different method.

Which was a testable idea that J.J. Thomson developed through his experiments?Atoms are the most important substances in the universe.
It is impossible to divide an atom into smaller parts.
There are electrically neutral particles inside atoms.
Atoms contain small, negatively charged particles.

Answers

Atoms contains small, negatively charged particles. His experiment showed that an atom contains negatively charged particles which was later known as electrons. This was confirmed by the Cathode Ray Experiment he conducted.

Answer: The correct statement is atoms contain small, negatively charged particles.

Explanation:

J.J.Thomson was a scientist which discovered electrons that are present in an atom.

He did an experiment and gave a model for this. The experiment conducted by him was Cathode Ray experiment and the model given by him was Plum pudding model.

From cathode ray, he showed that the cathode ray was composed of a negatively charged particles and named it as electrons. From plum pudding experiment, he said that the electrons are embedded in the atom. These particles carry negative charge and are very small as compared to the atom.

Hence, the correct statement is atoms contain small, negatively charged particles.

Why does the chemical reaction seen here obey the law of conservation of matter? a. because there are the same number of atoms of each element shown on both sides
b. because they both start and end with diatomic (two-atomed) molecules
c. because they both start and end with the same types of particles

Why does the chemical reaction seen here obey the law of conservation of matter?

Answer:

  • Because there are the same number of atoms of each element shown on both sides

Explanation

  • As in chemical reactions, atoms bonds are break and new bonds are formed. As new substance are formed but overall they have same elements, no new elements come from outside or go to outside. In other words , rearrangement of atoms take place but number of atoms remained same.

                            NaOH + HCl -----> NaCl + H2O

Write the balanced molecular equation and net ionic equation for the neutralization reaction between hydrochloric acid and strontium hydroxide. Include the phase of each species.

Answers

Answer:

the net ionic equation is H+(aq) + OH-(aq)----->H2O(l)

Explanation:

In conclusion to the earlier solution, 2H+(aq) + 2OH-(aq)----->2H2O(l) can be broken down because they all have the same coefficient. So divide both sides by 2.

The net ionic equation will be H+(aq) + OH-(aq)----->H2O(l)

Final answer:

The balanced molecular equation for the neutralization reaction between Hydrochloric acid (HCl) and Strontium hydroxide (Sr(OH)2) is HCl(aq) + Sr(OH)2(aq) -> SrCl2(aq) + 2H2O(l). Its net ionic equation is 2H+(aq) + 2OH-(aq) -> 2H2O(l). Spectator ions are eliminated during the formulation of the net ionic equation.

Explanation:

A neutralization reaction between hydrochloric acid and strontium hydroxide can be represented by the balanced molecular equation: HCl(aq) + Sr(OH)2(aq) -> SrCl2(aq) + 2H2O(l). Breaking it down into the total ionic equation we will have: H+(aq) + Cl-(aq) + Sr2+(aq) + 2OH-(aq) -> Sr2+(aq) + 2Cl-(aq) + 2H2O(l). This can be simplified by removing the spectator ions to obtain the net ionic equation: 2H+(aq) + 2OH-(aq) -> 2H2O(l). This aligns with the principle that in a neutralization reaction, an acid reacts with a base to form water and a salt.

Adding hydrogen atoms to an unsaturated fatty acid will make it __________.a. more solid
b. have better 6 benefits in relationship to heart disease
c. increase its flavor
d. create a fatty acid

Answers

The answer is (a.) more solid

Adding hydrogen atoms to an unsaturated fatty acid will make it more solid. This process is called hydrogenation. In this process, hydrogen is added to an unsaturated fatty acid to make it more saturated and thereby more solid at a room temperature.
