All high school students want to help make their world a better place.

This sentence is an example of _____.

circular reasoning
an either/or argument
an overgeneralization
a questionable cause-and-effect statement

Answers

The correct answer is: An overgeneralization.

An overgeneralization is the extension of an application from a set of individuals to every individual that shares a set of characteristics, when in reality, this extension is without merit.

In the case of this sentence, somebody claims that every high school student is a devote philanthropist willing to do their best to make the world a better place, when in reality, not every student shares this trait or is willing to help this cause. Therefore, the speaker's claim is discredited of any value.

Hi!! It's Anne!! I will help you the best I can with this question. I agree with the person on that site (in comments above). You will hear "them" but the grammar should be "they". There seems to be a big debate on this project. Some people say that them would be correct, and some say that they would be the best. I would most say what I said above, that "them" is most commonly said but "they" is technically correct. Look at those links I gave you and hopefully I helped guide you to the correct answer. Sending oodles of luv have the best day EVAH! (:

The answer is B. The word them in this case makes a lot more sense then the word they.
