Need help with a problem. For some reason I can not seem to get it correct. Thinking my formula is wrong. Here's the problem:Assume that there are approximately 140x10^9 stars in our galaxy.
Our galaxy is 50,000 light years from the center to the edge, but just 1,000 light years thick. It's shaped like a thin disk or cylinder. If the stars were distributed equally throughout the galaxy, how many stars would you expect to find in one cubic light year?

I thought it would be Pi*r^2*l. Then divide that by the number of stars. What am I doing wrong? Thanks, been 20 years since I had to do math like this!

Step-by-step explanation:

Please, include the instructions.

I'm assuming you want to solve this system of linear equations for z and w, assuming that k is an unknown constant.

Use the method of elimination by addition and subtraction.  To eiiminate w, multiply all four terms of the first equation by 10, obtaining:

10 z + 10w - 30 = 10k

6z   - 10 w        = 80

Then 16z - 30 - 80 = 10k, or

16z  -110 = 10k,  Simplifying this, we get:

      10(k + 11)

z = ---------------

            16

Substituting this expression for z into the first equation, we get:

(10/16)(k + 11) + w - 3 = k.  We must solve this for w:

-(10/16)(k + 11) + w - 3 = k), or

-(10/16)(k + 11) - w + 3 = -k

Then -(10/16)(k + 11) + 3 + k = w

and so the solution, in terms of the unknown constant k, is

      10(k + 11)

(     --------------,  -(10/16)(k + 11) + 3 + k   )

            16

The bakery bought four bags of flour containing 3.5 kg each 475 g of flour are needed to make a batch of muffins and 0.65 kg is needed to make a loaf of bread if 4 batches of muffins and five loaves of bread are baked how much flour will be left give your answer in kilograms

Answers

First we have to find total mass of flour.
4*3.5kg=14kg
Now we are calculating how much flour we used for muffins
475g=0.475kg
0.475kg*4muffins=1.9kg
and now how much flour we used for bread
0.65kg*5bread=3.25kg
Finally we can subtract 1.9 and 3.25 from 14kg
14kg-1.9kg-3.25=8.85kg - its the answer

The left out amount of floor is \boxed{\bf8.85\,\,{\text{kilogram}}}.

Further explanation:

The weight of one bag of flour is 3.5 kg.

The bakery bought 4 bags of flour.

Therefore, the total weight of 4 bags is calculated as follows:

4*\left({3.5\,\,{\text{kg}}}\right)=14\,\,{\text{kg}}

The weight of flour needed for a batch of muffins is 0.475 kg.

Therefore, the weight of flour needed for 4 batches of muffins is calculated as follows:

4*\left({0.475\,\,{\text{kg}}} \right)=1.9\,\,{\text{kg}}

The weight of flour needed for a loaf of bread is 0.65 kg.

Therefore, the weight of flour needed for 5 loaves of bread is calculated as follows:

5*\left( {0.65\,\,{\text{kg}}} \right)=3.25\,\,{\text{kg}}

So, the total weight of floor used in the process of making muffins and loaves of bread is calculated as follows:

3.25\,\,{\text{kg+}}1.9\,\,{\text{kg}}=5.15\,\,{\text{kg}}

Now, the weight of floor that is left out in the bag is calculated as follows:

14\,\,{\text{kg}}-5.15\,\,{\text{kg}}=8.85\,\,{\text{kg}}

Thus, the left out amount of floor is \boxed{\bf8.85\,\,{\text{kilogram}}}.

to find the answer, you need to find the measure of the angle on the other side of the 142. and since it's a straight line, those two angles measures are =to 180 (they're supplementary angles). so the measure of that angle is 38 degrees. to find the measure of the remaining angle, you subtract the angle measures you already know from 180 (because the sum of interior angles in a triangle is 180.) to, the answer is:

180-90-38= 52 degrees or A

Assume that a student attends a four-year college with tuition costs of $20,000 per year, room and board costs of $5,000 per year, and books/entertainment costs of $1,000 per year. Answers

Answer:

$180,000.

Step-by-step explanation:

We have been given that a student attends a four-year college with tuition costs of $20,000 per year, room and board costs of $5,000 per year, and books/entertainment costs of $1,000 per year. If the student did not go to college, she would work at a job that pays $25,000 per year but still face the same room and board and entertainment expenses.

We know that opportunity cost is the profit lost, when one alternative is selected over another.

Opportunity cost of attending college for 4 years would be amount lost from job in 4 years plus amount spent on studies because the student lost $25,000 for four years for not doing the job and spent $20,000 for 4 years on studies.

4(\$25000+\$20,000)=4(\$45,000)=\$180,000

Therefore, the opportunity cost of attending college for this student for four years is $180,000.

Final answer:

The opportunity cost of attending college for four years is $100,000.

Explanation:

The opportunity cost of attending college for four years is the value of the best alternative that the student foregoes by choosing to attend college. In this case, the student could have worked and earned $25,000 per year instead of going to college. So, the opportunity cost for four years would be $25,000 * 4 = $100,000.
